Here's my thoughts.. by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!
Hi Stefani,
Everyone has different body chemistry and just 'playing' around with the different types of magnesium to find out which type works best for you is the best. Just avoid magnesium oxide as that is the least absorbable.
Here's my thoughts as I've answered it in another question on the No Mention of Magnesium Malate page. So, in other words, you don't 'need' to find the 'closest' to magnesium gluconate, you just need to find the magnesium that works best for you.
But I caution you that you are GOING to end up with problems down the line if you are 'just' taking magnesium. I NEVER recommend that anyone take a high dosage of any one single supplement. Supplements are not drugs and they require other nutrients for them to work properly. Taking one single nutrient can and likely will result in you depleting other nutrients and you could end up becoming worse.
If you are not taking a HIGH QUALITY multivitamin, NOT a 'Drug Store Brand', then it's likely that you'll regret it in the long run...
