Vit D below <4 part 2
by: Anonymous

The Vitamin D they checked for was calcidiol (D3). I did get checked approximately 5 months earlier and notified 3 months ago the result was at a level of 17 and then was placed on a 1000 IU vitamin D daily intake for 2 months. When retaking the vitamin D test it drop to <4. Tiredness and Light leg pains have been constant for over 2 years, especially in the morning.

Yep, you are REALLY LOW!

I've outlined all of the major reasons why most people become vitamin D deficient on the Causes of Vitamin D Deficiency page.

Mainly, the major reason why you are so low is because you BELIEVE that you are getting vitamin D from SOMEWHERE because that's what doctors tell you. "If you eat a well-balanced diet, you'll get all the vitamin D you need..." is what most doctors (who have all of something like 2 hours of nutritional training) will tell you.

And 1000 IU's is a MAINTENANCE dose for a newborn infant, not a Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment for an adult!

The other thing is that you should read the page on Prescription Vitamin D and Vitamin D2 vs Vitamin D3 Page and see why you might want to reconsider that Prescription and consider taking Vitamin D3 Supplements instead.

VITAMIN D
by: Marien

I agree totally with Kerri Knox RN. My level was 6. Take D3. Below 20 +/- your parathyroid can kick in to help compensate. At approx. 40 you're using your "D" as fast as you are taking it in.

I take 5,000 IU of D3 along with calcium, potassium and magnesium (magnesium helps the body to absord the D). Get 15-20 minutes of sun daily with as much skin exposed as possible.

vitamin D.3

I was born with rickets and am not sure what my vitamin d level was because up until now I didn't know it was a problem. I stay tired and weak in the legs. My potassium drops low quite a bit. I have been taking viramin d3 for more than a year yet the last blood draw it was below 4. I told my doctor that something is wrong when I consume so much vitamin d and still it is not coming up. 5000 units weekly and still it don't come up. I also take multi vitamins which carry 600 iu of vitamin d 3. what could be the problem?
