Vitamin D and the Elderly by: Kerri Knox, RN-The Immune Health Queen!
Hi Louise,
Vitamin D has been shown to be a factor in the development of heart disease. And while it has not been shown that it helps people who CURRENTLY HAVE heart disease, it has been shown to help the elderly in a lot of ways.
It helps prevent osteoporosis It helps increase muscle strength It helps to decrease fatigue It can reverse aches and pains And it can even help prevent the elderly from FALLING- a major worry that most elderly people have.
So, I suggest that you Get your Vitamin D Level Tested and then determine how much vitamin D to take from that. But it's likely that you will be vitamin d deficient, if not severely deficient, and could need up to 10,000 IU's per day or more to get your Vitamin D Levels up to the normal range.
