You see, 1600 IU's per day, while being about twice the RDA, is a recommended MAINTENANCE dose for CHILDREN according to Dr. John Cannell of the Vitamin D Council.
So, most doctors are treating Vitamin D Defficiency with about 50,000 IU's of Vitamin D for 6 to 12 weeks, and then getting another Vitamin D Blood Test to make sure that your level is within normal limits before putting you on a maintenance dose of approximately 3800 to 5000 IU's of Vitamin D per day.
But you are making an excellent point for the readers here. You live in Sunny Saudi Arabia and are STILL Vitamin D Deficient!
Most people believe that as long as they LIVE in a sunny area, they are somehow protected from Vitamin D Deficiency even if they don't expose their skin to the sun!!
But many studies have been done on women living in the Middle East that show that the majority are Vitamin D Deficient!
So, please speak to a health care professional who is well versed in Vitamin D defficiency and get your Vitamin D Levels up to 'optimal' range.
Let me know if I can help you any further Asma.
