I AM 65 yrs old.I had red hair when I was younger and am light skinned.
I have always had very smooth skin. Now I have little clear raised places all over my arms, legs and feet and my skin feels rough when I run my hand over them.
My Dr. has just told me that i have low vitamin D.
Would that have any thing to do with what has happened to my skin?

I have about a one inch straight line rash that goes down the right side of my jaw.
I have had it before and it went away in a couple of days. A colleague said the rash can be a symptom of vitamin D Deficiency -- a deficiency I already have.
Do you have any information to confirm this?
Thanks.

Vitamin D and the Skin
>I am a 49 year old female with hypothyroidism.
I've been taking synthroid for 10 years.
My recent lab tests showed my vitamin D levels at 26 ng.ml.
My doctor has me taking 2,000 iu's daily and 50,000 iu's 2X a week for the next three months, with a recheck at that time. I've had a lot of the symptoms -- joint pain, depression (at certain times of the month), and inability to lose weight, no matter how hard or often I exercise.
My skin has not been healing like it used to. It takes longer for acne and scars to heal. I'm wondering if low Vitamin D is a contributing factor?

Can a vitamin d deficiency cause skin rash?
__________________________________________
ANSWER:
Hi Thelma,
It's VERY unlikely. I've never heard of anyone GETTING a skin rash from vitamin d deficiency. Plus, Thelma, DO remember that if you got the skin rash and were diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency at the same time, they are not necessarily even correlated.
This is because if you were JUST diagnosed with Vitamin d deficiency, you didn't JUST get it! You've likely HAD vitamin d deficiency for years- maybe even decades!!
So, unless your skin rash has been going on for a very long time and goes away with the administration of Vitamin d, it's not likely that there is any correlation.
