I have osteoporosis, and I'm taking a daily injection of forteo (20mcg). After one year, of a two year program of forteo, he said the bone density results were not as good as he had hoped. He has placed me on 50,000iu Vitamin D capsules. I take them twice a week for 2 months. I work outside and get a lot of sunshine.

I have been having chronic lower back pain and had a bone density test done which said I had osteoporosis - but the blood work also said I had low levels of Vitamin D - I was told to take 1,000 units of the vitamin everyday along with 1200 calcium.
I have also been experiencing rib pain going around to the back as well - I can bend and I was told by a doctor that I am "flexible" - but could taking this vitamin help relieve my back and rib pain because I do not want to take the drugs prescribed for osteoporosis due to all the serious side affects.
Thank you

I am a 62 year old male diagnosed recently with Osteoporosis and Osteoperisis. My recent Vitamin blood test gave a result of 15nmol/L.
It is clear I am Vitamin D deficient, after many months housebound with three breaks to my left humerus.
Vit D/cal supplements Px.
Am I suffering Osteomalacia as well?
At what level is Osteomalacia diagnosed?

Return to Vitamin D Deficiency Symptoms.
I was just told that I have Vitamin D deficiency. I was told that my level was 12 when the range should be 20 to 100. I have read that this can cause weak bones, yet when I had my bone density test I was told it was great and that I would never have any problem.
Please help me understand.
Thank you.

I have osteoporosis and I have been taking Fosamax (weekly) and 1500 IU of calcium (daily) for a few years. Recently my endocrinologist put me on 4000 IU of vitamin D as well to promote better retention of the calcium. I also have periodontal issues.
My question is, will the calcium with the increased vitamin D assist in (some) regeneration of dental bone tissue?
I hope it's not too late.
