Hi D,
I'm sorry to hear about your recent liver issues. The conversion of Vitamin D to its active form IS affected by the health of your liver, but your doctor is not going to know this- and it really doesn't make that big of a difference. It just means that you may need higher doses to get your Vitamin D Level up to researcher recommended optimal levels.
I recommend that you prepare for your appointment by reading up on a few things:
1) Read this research study about why Researchers Say that Prescription Vitamin D Is Not Suitable for Supplementation. Then print it out, sit down with a highlighter pen and highlight anything that you would want to ask your doctor about IF he were to write you a prescription for Vitamin D- which it's likely that he will.
2) Then be sure to read the page on Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment so that you know what the right dosage for treatment is.
3) Google Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and do some research on that so you know what it is and ask your doctor if you may have that. It's one of the most common reasons for elevated Liver Enzymes in people who don't drink and is 100% related to diet!
You definitely want him to rule out any serious liver diseases, but if it's Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, then come on back here and learn how to get your liver healthy again!!
