Vitamin B12 for Disc Problems

by Christian
(Philadelphia)

I have leg and arm pain that can be debilitating on the right side of my body. I was intrigued by the article and if b12 can really help. I am sure I am deficient because my injuries have caused me to drink to often in the evening just to sleep and my diet only constitutes meat a few times a week. I am confused with how to approach dosage. Do I do the 1000 mcg every couple hours or do I start high dose since this is a long term issue I have had and my latest MRI says my back injuries should no longer be causing issues.

Not important how to start
by: Kerri Knox, Registered Nurse

Hi Christian,

It's not important at what dose you start at. If you want to start slow and work up over a week or so because you tend to react to substances, that's fine. If not, then just start at whatever dose you want to try out for a while. There's no right answer, and you can go up to as high a dose as you wish.

I would also encourage you to read the pages on Vitamin D and Pain as well as Signs of Magnesium Deficiency, both of which could be contributing to pain.

Good luck,

Kerri Knox, RN
