Tooth and Hair Loss with Possible Vitamin D Deficiency

My gums and teeth are sore to brush and red with inflammation and my hair is falling out but neither my brilliant dentist or doctor are linking it to my low vitamin D levels. HELP me convince them of the link before I look like Kojak without teeth!

Please can you help to explain the possible links between low vit D levels and these problems? Thank you very much.

Not enough research
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Jan,

Unfortunately there are two problems with your request.

The first is that in 15 years of nursing, I've never been able to 'convince' a doctor of anything. The second is that there is absolutely not enough research to suggest that reversing your vitamin d deficiency will reverse your tooth loss or hair loss. There is definitely research that suggests that they are related, but little to no research showing that giving you vitamin d will reverse these problems and without that, your doctors will not be 'convinced'.

Next, you do not NEED your doctor in order to get a Vitamin D Test. You can get an In Home Vitamin D Blood Spot Test and correct your vitamin d deficiency yourself.

As far as your teeth are concerned, I would highly recommend that you download the amazing book that I offer called Money by the Mouthful that is likely your best, and maybe only, chance at reversing your gum and teeth problems if your dentist doesn't have any ideas on how to help you.

It provides a comprehensive solution that your dentist is simply not going to tell you about.

another explanation for hair loss, weak teeth and vit d deficiency
by: Anonymous

Hello,
I too, have all of the above. My teeth are quickly deteriorating and so is my hair. I found out about a year ago that my vit d was critically low, though no one said to take any supplements!

Just recently, I switched drs and my new dr checked my serum calcium level, PTH (parathyroid hormone)level, and ionized calcium levels. She found that they were all too high which suggested hyperparathyroidism and so she sent me for a nuclear scan and it was positive for a tumor on one of my parathyroids.

I am now waiting for surgery, as it is the only cure. What hyperparathyroidism does is to pull calcium from your teeth and bones and deposit all over your body in places it shouldn't like your heart, liver, kidneys, etc. This leads to heart attacks, strokes, kidney stones, osteoporosis, etc.

After surgery, they give you a lot of calcium and it reverses the osteoporosis but you are still at risk of kidney stones for up to 15 yrs. and I have no idea how long your cardiac risks last.
So, do yourself a favor and get both of your calciums and your PTH too.
