You've been doing your research...

Hi Fran,

You've definitely been doing your research. Yes, your doctor should not be giving you Prescription Vitamin D and 50,000 IU's per MONTH is RIDICULOUSLY low for Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment.

So, taking 10,000 IU's of Vitamin D3 Supplements is a MUCH better idea and will be safe and effective to bring your levels up to the researcher recommended Optimal Vitamin D Levels.

Just make sure that you DO get your levels rechecked in 3 months and then you continue taking vitamin d to meet your daily Vitamin D Requirements.

Good job!

Vit D question
by: annonyomous

Recently my doctor told me to take 50,000 I.U.s of Vitamin D. I am allergic to shellfish and in the past when taking fish oil (1000 mg? Country Life) I felt calm, yet couldn't concentrate when studying. In the past, my lips and eyes swelled after eating certain foods. I was allergy tested once and it didn't determine the source.

In general..I seem to be sensitive to meds and even some natural remedies such as progesterone cream. With progesterone cream I felt depressed and experienced cloudy vision.

My experience is not limited to these natural products, but also occurs with OTCs. For example, Advil makes me dizzy. Dizziness is usually my most common symptom.

Back to Vit. D...
I tried 1000 I.U.s of Vit D from the Vit. Shoppe the other day. I mixed the liquid (drops) in water. What I experienced was mild GI disturbance (neg) and a sense of drowsiness/calmness (positive??) I felt a bit different. The only good thing was the sense of calmness I felt when studying. I thought this was good at first, but as the evening passed I increasingly felt discomfort and couldn't pinpoint what was troubling me. I discontinued the oil after three days.

Are there any other options for me? I have a room attached to the house-sun room. Will this be sufficient for me if all else fails?
