It's one of the many many reasons why we NEED to have adequate amounts of cholesterol in our body and why the move towards lowering cholesterol levels is a damaging trend that has actually been increasing the risk of some cancers- possibly because it may inhibit vitamin d absorption of the skin due to the reduction in the cholesterol layer.
HOWEVER, the process begins in the oils on the top of your skin. Westerners who wash everyday decrease the amount of oils on the top of their skin constantly and the decrease in oils on the skin may be one of the many reasons for the epidemic of vitamin d deficiency in western nations today.
We need FAR FAR more fat in our diet than most westerners get. We NEED cholesterol and we NEED oils on our skin. Yet doctors tell us that we need less fat and less cholesterol and tell us to wash frequently. All of this is damaging advice that is hurting our health. Has the amount of cancer, heart disease and chronic illness been decreasing since doctors have told us to eat less fat and cholesterol? No, it has been increasing. This is a cause and effect relationship and what we need to eat less of is sugar and processed foods, not healthy fats...
