You're Still not taking enough...
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Linda,

I'm assuming that your doctor is helping you with these dosages after you had your level taken?

If so, could you PLEASE make sure that both you and he read the page on Vitamin D Deficiency Treatment so that all of your doctor's other patients can be spared the same problems as you are going through right now.

So, first of all, 2000 IU's is the right daily Vitamin D Dosage for a 25 pound child- not a treatment dosage for an overweight adult!!

And even 5000 Iu's is not going to be enough. That is still a MAINTENANCE dosage for an adult, but it will not be likely to bring your levels up enough.

So, please read my page on Vitamin D Therapy and that will take you step by step through how much vitamin d to take and how often you should be doing testing (not 6 months later!!) to get your level up.

Also, you want to make sure that you ARE taking Vitamin d3- and not JUST 'Vitamin D'- they are not always the same thing.

Liquid

Try using liquid vitamin D3. My levels were 26 when I got my first blood test. I took 10,000 IU's of liquid vitamin D3 a day for 8 weeks, and then dropped down to 5,000 IU's after that. It is now 6 months later, and my levels have increased from 26 to 76. I think liquid is the best way to go. Your body more readily absorbs any vitamins better in liquid form.

My doctor in the beginning, also tried to tell me to take only 2,000 IU's daily, until I ran into this website while researching. When I went in to get my blood drawn again, I let my doctor know what I had learned, and that I am currently taking 5,000 IU's daily still, and she told me to continue on the same dosage. Maybe she has learned something too. :)
