MUST READ ANSWER ABOUT QUESTIONS REGARDING H PYLORI BEING CONTAGIOUS
by Kerri Knox, RN
Please read this before asking any questions about H pylori being contagious. Please stop 'Worrying' that you are going to expose someone else.
You should NOT stop kissing your children.
You should NOT stop kissing your partner
You should NOT stay home from work, even if you work in the health care industry.
You need to understand that you may have had this BACTERIA for decades without having symptoms and you are only beginning to have symptoms now!! How many people did you kiss in that 20 years? How many glasses did you share? How many times did you use someone else's fork?
There is no way for you to know how long that you have had H pylori or how many people that you have exposed in your lifetime. Even if you KNOW that Aunt Martha 'gave you' H pylori when she stayed at your house for a week- you are just MAKING THAT UP!! The fact is that unless you were tested before Aunt Martha stayed, then it's just as likely that YOU gave Aunt Martha H pylori 10 years ago and the both of you are only NOW having symptoms from.
If you avoid coming into contact with anyone for their protection, they are STILL going to be exposed ten thousand times in the next 10 years, so your efforts will be for absolutely nothing.
Short of testing everyone that comes into contact with your child - including all of the other children at their daycare and schools for the rest of their life, there is simply no way that you can protect them from exposure to H pylori!!! So please don't try!!
The best thing that you can do to prevent you or anyone you love from getting H pylori is by keeping your immune system strong and eating right. Everyone that sees me as a client already 'thinks' that they are 'eating healthy' even if they eat Cocoa Puffs for breakfast, cold cuts on white bread for lunch and white flour pasta for dinner.
I suggest that you get
The Healthy Urban Kitchen in order to learn how to REALLY eat right.
Following the instructions in that book, getting exercise, fresh air and sunlight is going to go INFINITELY further in protecting your family from the H Pylori bacteria than not kissing them.
Please put this 'Bacteria' (it's NOT a disease) in perspective. Half the WORLD has it and YOU not kissing your children is NOT going to prevent them from getting it and will only make them wonder why mommy doesn't like them anymore.
