I HAVE SEVERE LEG CRAMPS AT NIGHT. I HAVE INCREASED MY MAGNESIUM INTAKE TO 800MG. CRAMPS COME LESS OFTEN BUT WHEN THEY COME THEY ARE SEVERE,
HOW MUCH INTAKE OF MAGNESIUM IS PROPER.

I find your website very helpful as I have written before about having a Vitamin D deficiency. I have gotten my vitamin D levels up to normal range in the last 6 months from 26 to 78. Great news right? I was diagnosed with Crohn's when I was 15 years old and am now 34.
I understand that a lot of my vitamin deficiency issues are caused by this. I have started taking Calcium, Vitamin D, Magnesium, Omega's, and a good multi vitamin on top of it all, because I know I do not get adequate nutrition due to not being able to eat much. My problem is that I've had this cramp in my calf muscle for over a year now. Some days are better than others, but on some days, I find it hard to even walk or go up stairs. My SED and C-reactive protiens are 14 times the normal limit as of 3 weeks ago, and I have been placed on prednisone AGAIN. Each time I get off the steroid, my inflammation levels skyrocket again, and it's like a huge cycle over and over. I'm tired of my calf hurting, so I decided to buy a Potassium supplement to see if this will help.
Although I am taking the Magnesium, I am still not getting relief of this muscle cramp. The whole reason my doctor even did the Vitamin D test in the first place was because of my complaints of the calf muscle cramp.
She told me that that once I got my vitamin D levels to normal range, it would not hurt anymore. (Yeah right!) I have been reading through your website for a long time now, and have kind of started taking my own supplements based on what I have read here. My question now is, based on your website, I know the RDA for a lot of these supplements are way too low. Can you tell me how much potassium I should be taking?

I am always getting leg cramps just after I start my run. Am I running on empty in other words am I low in magnesium? For most runners a leg cramp usually comes on near the end of a long run but me me it's the opposite. The cramp will come on very quickly and leave me limping.
The tightness and pain will last for a week and when I try to run again I may feel the start of another cramp. The Muscle Cramp is mainly on my left calf only. I have been epileptic for the past 35 years and am currently on Tegretol and Lamictal.
I started taking magnesium oxite 3 months ago approx 3 months ago. I am on 1000 mg twice a day along with Vit C,B,E,D, and calcium.
What suggestions can you give me.
Thanks.
