Multiple Sclerosis and a high MCV by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune System Queen
Hi Carmen, you asked if your MCV might be high because you have MS. Actually, it's the other way around. YOu might have MS because your MCV Level is high.
First of all, you need to understand why you have a high MCV. So please click on the MCV Blood Test link and read about why a high MCV almost certainly means that you have Vitamin B12 deficiency- and have had it for several years at least.
Next, you need to understand the role of Vitamin B12 in neurologic issues. So please read my page on Mental Changes from B12 Deficiency. It's almost criminal that your doctor missed your probable B12 deficiency. MS gets mistaken for B12 deficiency all of the time. It's unbelievable to me that he would have ignored a high MCV level in someone with MS.
