Intense muscle cramps thoughout the body

3years ago I had to have my kneecap repaired with wires and screws which remain in my knee. For the past couple of years I have been getting extremely intense pain - like cramp but deep inside my whole leg with intensity building till it feels like my leg is about to turn inside out, taking a long time to subside and then my leg muscles feel like I've been kicked really hard.

I also find I'm getting the more normal type cramps in all different parts of my body especially my hands or part of. I have always had trouble with night leg cramps since I was a child. This seems different , waking me up 2 or 3 times a night , usually for a few nights and then I'll be ok for a few nights before it comes back again. Do you think it might have something to do with the wiring in my knee?
