Switching to D3 by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!
Hi Kay,
Thanks for the great compliment about my site. I work very hard to make it understandable and user friendly and PRACTICAL- not theoretical.
So, your instinct is right, 100,000 IU's is too much to continue for a year. I have created a page called Vitamin D Therapy page to make a step-by-step program for everyone.
You'd be on Step 4- Maintenance. So you can go to the Vitamin D Requirements page and decide your maintenance dose. Especially with your osteoporosis, I would recommend that you follow the instructions on my Magnesium Dosage page in addition to any multivitamins, etc that you are taking.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions...

Not sure how to make the switch by: Laura
Hello, I agree - this is a wonderful site! Many thanks for providing information and sharing your knowledge.
I was just diagnosed with vit D deficiency (11.9 with the normal range being 32-100 ng/ml). I was prescribed Vit D2 adn I very much regreat taking my first pill of 50,000 units D2 last night. I should have listened to my instincts and stuck to my guns instead of caving in to my doctor! It's not my fault he's not up to speed on the D3 debate and data! Oh well. Can you please advise me how to make the switch now from D2 to D3? I am definitely not going to take the other 3 pills of D2 in my bottle! I just don't know how to safely ease into the D3.
Do I need to wait until the D2 is out of my system? How long should I wait until I start taking D3? And also, can recommend how many units of D3 I should take? Should i take it in cod liver oil form (ie a tablespoon, or 2, or more of Carlsons cod liver oil), or in the fish oil pills, or in krill oil pills, or in tablets of D3??? I'd be so grateful for any recommendations you can give me. I'm not feeling so hot from the D2 -- metallic taste, dry mouth, very thirsty, stomach sort of upset, burping, acid reflux, and now muscle weakness, but I have to say I also have a bad head cold and slight fever 99.1 (my normal temp is below 98.6). Maybe my eyes hurt from the fever and not the D2 I'm guessing, though my vision seemed somewhat blurry today leading up to the fever.
Not sure if it's related to the fever or the D2. Is there a way to remove that D2 from my system faster??? I am a big user of epsom salt baths which deliver magnesium -- would that be helpful do you think. Since I'm cold from the fever it sounds so appealing but I don't want to do anything potentially dangerous.
Thank you!

Magnesium deficiency by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!
Hi Laura,
Please don't take this wrong, but I think that you probably REALLY REALLY need to gets LOTS more magnesium. Please read my page on Signs of Magnesium Deficiency to see why your super high anxiety level and intense worry is likely a sign of magnesium deficiency.
And you don't need to 'ease into' anything after taking D2, you just take the D3 as I told the previous poster by following the exact same instructions that I gave to her.
Everything is outlined step by step and all you need to do is follow the instructions that I gave to her..
