2000 IU's is NOT a treatment or maintenance dose by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!
Hi K,
2000 IU's of vitamin d is neither a dose that is proper to be used for either treatment of deficiency or for meeting your daily maintenance requirements.
Therefore it is not uncommon for people to take 2000 IU's of vitamin d and find that their levels go DOWN!! And then they panic and think something must be 'wrong' with them when they are just not taking enough for a maintenance dose.
Think of it this way, if you believed that you were too skinny and were still losing weight because you were only eating 500 calories per day, would deciding to increased your calories to 800 calories per day make you maintain or gain weight simply because you increased your calories?
No, you would still lose weight despite the fact that you increased your calories because you didn't choose an 'effective' amount to increase your calories, you chose an arbitrary random number that 'increased' calories by nearly 50%, but that still didn't meet your daily needs- and therefore you will still lose weight.
Please go to my page on Vitamin D Therapy and follow the step-by-step instructions on how to bring your vitamin d levels up to optimal and don't rely on choosing 'random' dosages, choose what has already been proven to work.
