High MCV and MCH for the First Time

by Harriet
( )

My MCV result came out 102.6 and my MCH 34.5 and my doctor did not point this out but I saw it when I asked for a copy of my results. Is this result high enough to be alarmed about. Please advise and I will ask him or another provider.

Thank you
Harriet

Hi Harriet,

Please see my page on MCV Blood Test and you'll see that 'normal' goes up to about 98. Your levels are DEFINITELY too high, which means that you've likely been vitamin B12 deficient for many years.

Should you be 'alarmed'? I don't know, but you are likely vitamin B12 deficient. Should you go talk to another doctor about it? I don't know, but they might not pay attention to it, say it's nothing, marginalize it, etc. OR they might do more testing and tell you that you are vitamin b12 deficient and you are fine- when you still might be very vitamin B12 deficient.

PLease see my page on Vitamin B12 Levels to see why even if you get vitamin b12 levels done, they will likely be wrong.

So, you certainly can go from doctor to doctor for months, get more testing, spend a ton of health care dollars, get really frustrated and not get any real answers to this if you really want to.

Or, you can ignore it if you aren't having any symptoms. Or you can just spend a few bucks on some Immune System Health and take some harmless b12 that you are most likely low in.
