Fibromyalgia or Vitamin D Deficiency

I have been suffering chronic pain for 9 years from what they told me was fibromyalgia. I am in shock after reading the symptoms of Vitamin D Deficiency. Whoever knew? Nobody ever talks about this.

My vitamin D level tested at 28. If I have been deficient all the years, can I expect to make a full recovery with proper D supplementation?


What kind of doctor do I see?

I have been in tears at the end of a work day just struggling to get through every day. My hair is falling out, I've had 2 root canals and 2 crowns on my teeth, I have so many of the symptoms of vitamin D deficiency!

I have been having body pains and my Dr and I thought it was fibromyalgia. I have a 6mg/nl vit D deficiency that can cause the pains I am told, and the diagnosis is now a Vit D deficiency not fibro. But when I read up on fibromyalgia I was shocked that 70 symptoms were what I had!

I have 16 out of 18 tender points. Also, severe eye pain that feels like a 'headache' in the eye, burning and painful heels, IBS, seborrhoeic dermatitis, post nasal drip, mucus in my stool, stiff neck, sleep problems, dry eye, short term memory loss, foggy brain, extreme fatigue, ridges on my nails, depression, noise and light sensitivity, sugar and carb cravings, PMS, cold hands and feet, excessive sweating, deep hip pain, fibroids, sore spot on top of my head, morning stiffness all over the body, itchy skin, dry mouth... What does this sound like to you? I also have cervical spondylitis.

Low Vitamin D and Fibromyalgia

is there any relation to low vitamin D and my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia? I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia last year and am taking Cymbalta and Lyrica and not seeing much improvement.

Just last week a blood test showed low Vitamin D. Just wondering if the two are related??

Low Vitamin D and Fibromyalgia

I am a 43 year old female with fibromyalgia. I am a dietitian and recently asked my physician to check my Vitamin D level mostly to get a baseline and out of curiosity. My value came back at 17.3 ng/ml. I was somewhat surprised that it is low.

I live in Arizona (have all of my life) and spend a good amount of time outdoor except in the winter months and hot summer. I have read that the body can make and store enough Vitamin D during the months one is exposed to UV outside to provide sufficient D for the rest of the year. I also take 400-800 IU daily (at least 400 IU/d).

My questions:
What amount of D3 would you recommend to get my levels in the optimal range? How long should I take this amount before I get re-tested? When in the optimal range, what would be the "maintenance" level? Are you aware of any "impairment" in Vitamin D metabolism in individuals with Fibromyalgia?
