RE: Could Excessive Itchiness be Due To Gluten Sensitivity?
by: Joe

I am gluten sensitive and also experience some intense itchiness this time of year, when the heater runs more often and the air gets dry.

I've always suspected that it has something to do with gluten. I'm quite certain it gets worse 2 - 3 days after I have slipped up and ingested some gluten. There is a condition, however, called dermititis herpetiformis that is clinically proven to be caused by gluten sensitivity. Read about it at Dermatitis Herpetiformis.

But this is associated with extremely itchy blisters.

What I have been doing this season that seems to be helping my "winter itch" is to lower the water temperature a bit in the shower, and I've switched to a more emollient moisturizer. I have tried a lot of natural lotions lately and I've found that ones containing Dimethicone work best.

Hope this helps!
