Chronically Elevated MCV

by Diane
(Belvidere NJ)

The past 3 blood tests I've had showed an elevated MCV. All were slightly over 100. My doctor tests me for vitamin B12 levels regularly and they are always within normal limits. He wants to send me to a hematologist, but I am reluctant to go. What can be causing this? I do have a history of several chronic diseases...hypothyroid, fibromyalgia, insomnia, IBS and others. Is this something I have to worry about?

Thank you

B12 Levels are worthless
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Diane,

Please read my pages on:

MCV Blood Test

and

Vitamin B12 Levels

B12 levels are worthless. I'm not sure why your doctor is using them. I'll bet that if you began taking B12, your MCV will go down in a few months. No hematologist or thousands of dollars for consults and useless tests needed.

High MCV
by: Anonymous

I have had high MCV for years. I do have two of the MTHFR gene factors but, also Lyme disease and co-infections. In addition, I was misdiagnosed for years with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. You may want to be tested for lymes disease, co-infections, and the MTHFR gene factor, etc.
