Breast Cancer Scare...
Is the Vitamin D Dosage Enough?

Breast Cancer and Vitamin D, Women Need to Be Educated!

Breast Cancer and Vitamin D, Women Need to Be Educated!

I recently had a breast biopsy done for microcalcifications. Biopsy of tissue removed was benign, yet the oncologist surgeon recommended 1200 to 1400 units of vitamin d daily.

Not as important during the summer months as during the winter months.

I recently started taking vitamin d supplements 1200 units per day and am having stomach issues. I do have a sensitive stomach and have in the past attempted to take a multi vitamin and calcium also and stopped as my stomach was affected.

Can vitamin d causes stomach issues and if so, can I just try lower doses.

I also asked her if I could take too much Vitamin D and she told me no, that the body would just expel what I didn't need and yet after checking out the internet I'm getting conflicting answers.

Suggestions welcome

Maybe Not Enough Vitamin D
Answer For Your Stomach Problems

by: Kerri Knox- The Immune Queen

Hi Susan,

Whew! I'm glad that you're Breast Cancer Scare turned out to be nothing.

However, it DID make you more aware of Vitamin D, so that turned out to be a really good thing.

So, the 1200 IU's may actually be far short of what you should be taking to keep your Vitamin D levels above 40 where researchers are recommending.

Most of the top Vitamin D researchers think that adults should be taking around 3500 - 5000 IU's per day!

Dr. Cannell of the Vitamin D Council suggests 1000 IU's per day for newborn infants! So you may be FAR short of what you need.

Next: VERY few people have stomach trouble with Vitamin D, but if you are one of the few, I don't recommend that you reduce your already low dose even further.

Instead, you could try a Sunshine Mist Vitamin D Spray which would be unlikely to bother your stomach and/or make a point of exposing your skin to sunshine every day.

As far as your doctor telling you that your body "Gets rid of" excess Vitamin D, this is simply false!

Vitamin D is fat soluble and you CAN overdose on Vitamin D, but there have been NO REPORTED CASES of Vitamin D overdose on less than 10,000 Units per day. So there is little danger of you overdosing!

Hope this helped.
