Moot Point
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Brooke,

It's a moot point as to whether low vitamin d causes eczema if you don't even know if you HAVE low vitamin D.

Please get a vitamin d level and readdress this question. Basically eczema is a FAT soluble vitamin issue and most people are deathly afraid of eating fat. Our ancestors sometimes ate ENORMOUS amounts of fat and did not get fat or have heart disease. Eating HEALTHY fats like coconut oil, olive oil, egg yolks (from free range chickens), organic butter from grass fed cows and (believe it or not) even LARD (from grass fed cows) is HEALTHY and necessary for our good health and for the health of our skin.

I highly suggest that you get the book by Weston A. Price called Nutrition and Physical Degeneration to see what GREAT lengths our ancestors would go through to get fatty foods with extremely high nutritional value to pregnant women so that they could have healthy children.

Then also get the companion educational and recipe book based on his works that is called Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats

These two books will teach you more about PROPER nutrition than you will get anywhere else, and eating as they suggest just might clear up your eczema.

1) Get a vitamin d level

2) EAT FAT!!!

Does Vitamin D from Fish Have Mercury?
by: Brooke

I see that you can get Vitamin D3 supplements from fish oil or lanolin. Which is better for you? Would you have to be worried about the amount of mercury in the fish oil if you are pregnant or breastfeeding?

I wouldn't recommend you to take Mercury!!!! ????
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Brooke,

I'm somewhat disconcerted by your question. If mercury in vitamin d were an issue at all and I knew about it, don't you think that I would at lease mention it somewhere on my site?!

Please give me a little bit of credit that I would not recommend that people take supplements that contained mercury!

If it was AT ALL concerning, I would have CERTAINLY mentioned it SOMEWHERE on my site and particularly on the Vitamin D and Breastfeeding page...

But again, the issue that you are bringing up is a moot point because 99% of all supplements are from lanolin and IT DOESN'T MATTER which one you get- they are both Vitamin D3.

Also, please DO NOT TAKE vitamin d until you get a level drawn!!!! How would you know how much to take??

On the Vitamin D and Breastfeeding page, research shows that you need AT LEAST 6400 IU's per day to make sure that your breast milk is replete with vitamin d, but with recently breastfeeding and on your second pregnancy in a year, you're likely to be very deficient and might need double or even triple that for a while.

If you just take 'some' vitamin D, then you could be deficient for your entire pregnancy. Not a good idea.

Also, the vitamin d that I recommend is the one that I sell on the Vitamin D Supplements page. I carry it because that is the one that I recommend...

Vitamin D from UVB
by: Brooke

I got my vitamin D level and was told it was 34. She didnt say ng or nmol but since she said it was normal I am assuming it was ng. Since I am having major eczema problems, I have started on narrowband UVB light therapy 3 days a week. Will this help me get the vitamin D I need?

I don't know how much Vitamin D you get from the sun or this therapy. Will it be enough for my breastfed baby? Or will we both need supplements still? Or would I have to get tested again?

Call the Manufacturer
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Brooke,

You'd have to call the manufacturer of the UVB light to know for sure if it creates Vitamin D. UVB DOES create vitamin d, but only in a specific band that may or may not be included in your machine.

And just so that you know, your level is NOT normal, it's still low so please read my page on Normal Vitamin D Levels to see why you are too low.

too much vitamin d?
by: Brooke

I talked to the manufacturer, and yes, the UVB lightbox does contain the band that produces vitamin D3. If i am already vitamin d efficient and taking my 6000iu of vitamin D, can i overdose or have my baby overdose by doing the light therapy?

I am also giving him his vitamins which contain 400iu.

You can overdose if you overdose
by: Kerri Knox, RN- The Immune Queen!

Hi Brooke,

You can overdose if you overdose. I don't know how long you are going to be sitting in front of the lightbox, so I can't say 'No, you can't overdose'. If you get too high of exposure from the lightbox while you are taking 6000 IU's per day, sure you could. I don't know how much you are going to be using the thing. So, while it's unlikely and probably next to impossible if you use it properly, I don't know how you are going to use it.

There has never been a recorded case of a baby having a vitamin d overdose from it's mother's breastmilk...
